Dreams of Joseph "Erap" Estrada

LAST night, I had a dream about President Joseph "Erap" Estrada. It was a most unfortunate dream: he was killed not by assassination--a threat of which I suspect was behind his decision to support the HOCUS PCOS "President" Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III--but by deliberate food poisoning. After his death, it seemed much of the Philippines' opposition was silenced.

1990s Dream of Erap

This is not the first time I dreamt clearly of Joseph Estrada. During the early 1990s when Erap was yet a senator, I had this strange dream of him sitting on a chair, with several dwarves around him, in the stance of a commonly depicted Buddha statue.

Strange because there were dwarves involved. Even stranger because at the time of my very dream encounter of the Erap, kind, I was a vicious anti-Estrada and the idea of him being in my dream world was so repulsive. "Yuk, what a dream. What do I care about that Erap," I told myself. I was back then a Cory yellow, although characteristically not the solid gullible type, and anyone associated with Marcos was no-no for me at that point. Moreover, I was haughty and biased against "mere actors and actresses": I was, I believe now, sort of brainwashed by what I now refer to as Yellow Media.

Erap Dream: Sitted ala Sitting Buddha

I must confess that beyond the brainwashing, perhaps I thought Erap was too "baduy" for my taste as I, back then, thought of myself as belonging to the elite--definitely not of the material kind but of the intellectual kind. Objectively, I don't' think I should blame myself for this bias because Estrada projected an image of being not concerned with education. As I now understand, he deliberately cultivated a pronouncedly pro-masa image in his bid to endear himself with the Filipino masses. Explaining the famous, or infamous, Erap jokes that revolved around bad English.

Sometime after President Estrada was deposed by the immoral and unconstitutional EDSA 2, analysts would blame Erap jokes for Estrada's fall from grace. The Erap jokes, consciously crafted, if I'm not mistaken, by the PR firm of Reli German, did bring Erap closer to the masses but estranged, if not further estranged, him away from the all-important middle class. Still, I should have seen through the media bias and realized that a man who was admitted to Ateneo University and Mapua Institute of Technology cannot possibly be dumb. I should have bothered to question the media for portraying an outstanding, long-standing mayor as dumb.

Reassessing Erap

At any rate, Erap won as President in 1998--something I mistakenly thought as most anathema to Philippine political maturity and development. However, when the Estrada Resign Movement began to make noise, that was when I reassessed my earlier virulent anti-Estrada stance. The first thing I noticed was the composition of those wanting him to resign: known dirty political figures wanting Erap to step down on corruption charges?

What are these people, save perhaps for former President Cory Aquino and Cardinal Jaime Sin, really want? "What a joke," I thought: "sinners hurling stones at a sinner." I wouldn't have none of a judgmental, unchristian, ungodly, political persecution. Besides, while I definitely did not vote for Erap, he had the votes of the majority. "Aren't we supposed to respect democracy and its institutions?", I said to myself.

The rest is history. Estrada, a politico I used to hate, was ousted by a conspiracy of opportunists and stupid gullibles: Right, Center, and Left, with many of the latter having picked up an Arrobo stone that they used to hit their heads with [translation: they became unfortunate desaparecidos under the Illegitimate they helped install].

Dreams

It was during the height of EDSA 2 that I remembered my 1990s dream of Erap. I've been trying to analyze that dream since. Perhaps, the dwarves coiled around a sitting Erap meant he would be lucky to become Vice-President and later, President of the Philippines. But what about his EDSA 2 ouster?

That I again dreamt of Estrada in more explicit terms bothers me. Of course, it could just be plain and simple dream fueled by my frustration over his decision to support the psychologically challenged, zero-zero bill, Gov. Nantes-explosion-implicated, Hacienda-Luisita-massacre-implicated HOCUS-PCOS Yellow Cheat. Or is it?

Whatever, I just wish former and real President Joseph Ejercito Estrada the best. I wish him safety and health, longer life and redemption via historical rectification. And definitely, I wish him food security in the food-taster sense of the term.

President Joseph Estrada--You ARE the Real May 10, 2010 Winner

(Repost of a June 9, 2010 BLOG by Taga-Ilog News article)

PRESIDENT Joseph Ejercito "Erap" Estrada, you ARE the landslide winner. The YELLOW CHEAT with imperialist help from godless elites and the BALD EAGLE nation just prevailed.

Ang sakit po ng pag-bow n'yo sa mga Immoral, Unpatriotic, EDSA 3 Masa-Killing.Nantes-Killing, Hacienda-Luisita-Farmers-Killing Psychologically Challenged YELLOW CHEAT.

Since 2006, I've been fighting against EDSA 2 and the KANGAROO COURT Plunder case/decision in my personal blogging capacity. This election campaign, SOBRANG PUYAT ho ang inihandog ko sa inyo, to the point that I sacrificed earning time for my family. Moreover, I LAMENT the consequences of your decision for our dear motherland.

The 2001 EDSA 2 Power Grab, the May 2001 EDSA 3 bloody dispersal, the 2004 'Hello Garci' Electoral Fraud, the poll-rigging-related impunity that begot the Ampatuan massacre, and the May 10, 2010 Automated Electoral Cheating--they all need to be RECTIFIED. With you out of the Philippine political picture, these crimes will remain buried under the unholy ground of the godless yellows.

Mr. President, your decision to give in to the results of the fraudulent automated elections sends the most unfortunate signal that POLL FRAUD PAYS. The nation might as well adopt the motto" "May the best cheat wins." Trampling upon the true voice of the people is high crime and treason that should NOT be encouraged but, instead, be relentlessly punished.

I understand that the pressures from the wicked forces for you to give way to the YELLOW CHEAT must have been enormous. However, to bow to an electoral cheat, as the nation has done for the Illegitimate Arrobo the past nine years, is wrong, immoral, and  dangerous.  It will be a grievous mistake that will bring the country not to a road to recovery but, rather to a state of further decay.

It's never too late for GENUINE poll victors to reconsider. Mr. President Estrada, for the sake of our people, the future generations, please lead the nation in fighting for truth of the May 10, 2010 elections. Beyond, lead the nation to a more populist state till 2016.

Why I Voted Joseph "Erap" Estrada (Part II)

(Continuation of "Why I'm voting Joseph "Erap" Estrada")

2. Erap is an Effective, Patriotic Leader

Contrary to the demonized picture his elitist and hypocritical, unpatriotic enemies paint him out to be, Joseph "Erap" Ejercito Estrada has proved to be an effective, truly patriotic leader that has the heart for the masses. The "Father of the Masses" has carved for himself a rather outstanding track record throughout more than three decades of executive and legislative service.

Outstanding, Nationalist Mayor

In 1971, the Inter-Provincial Information Service voted Erap as Outstanding Mayor and foremost Nationalist. The following year, also for his record as Mayor of San Juan, Manila, he was chosen as Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in Public Administration by the Philippine Jaycees in 1972. The same year, he also won recognition by the Philippine Princeton Poll as the "Most Outstanding Metro Manila Mayor."

Infrastructure development was a mark of Estrada's administration as mayor--including the construction of the first San Juan Municipal High School and concreting of nearly all of San Juan's alleys and roads; renovation and improvement of other school buildings; and building of artesian wells, among others. Erap was so effective an administrator that, even with his accomplishments in infrastructure developments, he left San Juan with P24 million in savings.

Erap also exhibited vision, even early on. he first mayor to computerize assessment of the Real Estate Tax in the Municipal Assessor's Office. He established several foundations and trust funds aimed at providing scholarship and other assistance to the poor. In the movie industry, he is credited with the establishment of the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND), Inc. which has now become a robust organization that provides industry workers with financial and professional assistance.

Outstanding Nationalist Senator

As Senator, he chaired and co-chaired the Committee on Public Works and Committees on Health, Natural Resources and Ecology and Urban Planning, respectively. Among other bills, he was responsible for the passage of the he bills on irrigation project and the protection and propagation of carabaos, the beast of burden in the rural areas. Many farmers continue to benefit today  from his so-called Carabao Bill.

He also proved his nationalism once more while in the Senate, being one of the "Magnificent 12" who voted against the extension of the onerous, imperialistic RP-US Military Bases Agreement. Additionally, even before the vote proper, he produced the anti-Bases film "Sa Kuko ng Agila" in his crafty move to stir nationalist sentiments in a people long mired in 'American worship' miseducation. In 1989, Free Press magazine cited him as one of the Three Outstanding Senators of the Year.

Vice-President and Anti-Crime Czar

As Vice-President under the administration of Fidel V. Ramos, concurrently served as Chairman of the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission (PACC), in which capacity he ran after kidnappers, illegal recruiters, bank robbers, hoodlums both "in uniform" and "in robes." Unfortunately, when Ramos issued Executive Order No. 221 which significantly clipped the PACC'S operational control over is varied task forces, Estrada was forced to later resign as its chairman on June 4, 1997.

Presidential Accomplishments

As President, Estrada was able to increase the Gross National Product up to 3.6% while raising agricultural growth rate to 6.6% from virtual 0% growth. He was also able to lessen inflation rate, registered at 12% around the time he first occupied Malacanang, by some 3%. All these happened within only 2 1/2 years--and despite the fact that the Ramos administration exited with ZERO savings in the national treasury. AND also despite the fact that Erap took over during the time that the Philippines and practically rest of countries in Asia were still reeling from the Asian crisis.

Another important, but much overlooked, accomplishment of Estrada was his removal of sovereign guarantees on public project contracts, thus freeing the sovereign Filipino people the unjust responsibility of assuming private companies' financial losses while doing business with government. One of the onerous contracts his administration canceled was the $100 million customs contract with the Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS  S.A.) contract. Forged under Ramos' term, it involved  "pre-shipment inspection" (PSI) which has been described as a "global racket" involving players, some of which have been convicted of bribery of high Third World officials.

Estrada showed commitment to cleaning government by ordering wide-ranging investigations of all government contracts from previous administrations and all suspected big-time tax evaders, as well as ordering the immediate relief of corrupt military and police officials. True to his pro-poor campaign line, the deposed and defamed President also undertook an aggressive nation-wide housing program targeting low-cost homes for the poor.

Kind, Self-Made and with Strength of Character

Estrada, in contrast to his Yellow opponent, is a self-made man who built his name all on his own. He built his name as actor all by himself. He won overwhelmingly as Mayor, Senator, Vice-President, and President without his mother or father campaigning for him.

The EDSA 2 and Plunder charge chapter of his life also undeniably reveals his uncanny strength of mind, will and character. Beyond, he showed a level of kindness and forgiveness that most mortals can hardly give to their neighbors. To borrow Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile's words:

Despite all the betrayal, the public humiliation, the most vicious and meanest attacks upon his person, name and honor, and the long years of confinement and restriction on his freedom, what I saw in Erap was an inexhaustible capacity for kindness and forgiveness.
Many times when I would visit him under detention, I would be surprised by the people who I found there in his company, enjoying his generosity, hospitality, and even seeking his help and support. I just quietly said to myself: "How can this man bring himself up to even feed these people who betrayed his trust and those who were instrumental in his painful and illegal ouster?"

Such a man able to withstand what he went through, still forgive and hold no rancor, and still run for President not only to redeem his name but also to resume his pro-poor projects is a gem hard to find.

I'm not saying Estrada was flawless. He had his share of what ails Philippine politics but overall, he had the guts to implement a pro-Filipino, pro-poor policy that does not tolerate business shenanigans. A media practitioner Facebook friend sums it up: "Estrada went to jail for loose change, sent by a conspiracy of bigger crooks involved in the counterfeiting of bills, drug and human trafficking, dollar salting etc."

Looking back to the elitist, haughty, derisive, bad-mouthed, judgmental, undemocratic, not spontaneous but conspiratorial impostor "People Power" that was EDSA 2, Estrada can perhaps be faulted for caving in to the seditious mob. In his great respect for the lives of the common masa, he sacrificed his position and the vote of the sovereign people. The result is nine years of reign with impunity by Gloria's cabal of thieves, cheaters, and liars. An evil Illegitimate's reign that not only smashed the Filipinos' moral fiber but, as well, led to unparalleled hunger and killings, and death from extrajudicial executions, warlord-perpetrated massacres or negligence by sheer misappropriation of disaster funds. By opting not to confront the EDSA 2 conspirators and mob, Estrada ultimately did not save Filipino lives but perhaps lost more.

During the campaign, Estrada promised that next time he sits in Malacanang, such a power grab won't happen again. From experience, the modern-day champion of Filipino masses has grown wiser. I believe him and I believe his vow to continue with his pro-poor, practically patriotic programs. That's why I  cast my vote for him and his entire PMP slate.

POWER GRAB FROM PRESIDENT JOSEPH ESTRADA

Video on the infamous power grab in recent Philippine history.

The victim: the democratically elected President Joseph "Erap" Estrada.

The conspirators
: Bogus President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and husband; Mike Arroyo; ex-President Fidel Ramos; Jaime Cardinal Sin; business elites; Armed Forces chief Angelo Reyes, Supreme Court chief justice Hilario Davide, etc.

The unwitting conspirators: the gullible mob of Edsa 2.

The greater victims: Philippine democracy and the millions who cast their votes in the 1998 Presidential elections.

According to the Honorable Cecilia Munoz-Palma, former Supreme Court Justice and chairperson of the 1987 Constitutional Commission, Edsa 2 caused the 1987 Constitution to suffer.
This happened when the ongoing impeachment trial of President Joseph Estrada, was unceremoniously disrupted and discontinued, and the issues on hand were brought to the streets. The rule of law was set aside and the rule of force prevailed..

The Truth behind the Philippine Presidency and the 2004 Elections

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is seen by the Filipino masses as a bogus, evil leader who has "stolen the Presidency not once, but twice." The first time has to do with her role in unconstitutionally unseating the majority elected Philippine President Joseph "Erap" Estrada in the 2001 Edsa 2, a power grab disguised as a "People Power" uprising.

The second time Arroyo stole the presidency of the Southeast Asian nation was during the 2004 Presidential elections wherein she was supposed to have beaten opposition standard bearer and Estrada's friend, Fernando Poe Jr. The "victory" that led to the highly irregular earlier than 'break-of-dawn' inauguration of Arroyo was heavily tainted with allegations of systematic cheating that involved the Commissions on Elections, the military, business leaders who headed the NAMFREL "citizen's arm" electoral watchdog and administration Congressmen and Senators who covered up the electoral fraud during the congressional canvassing.

2004 Poll Fraud and 'Hello Garci'

The opposition's charges of poll cheating would be later be backed up by the so-called "Hello Garci" tapes that reveal the wiretapped conversations between Arroyo and an elections commissioner assigned to the contested region of Mindanao. Despite
convincing proofs, however, the big businesses, the Catholic Church and the Philippine media helped sustain the cover-up of the fraudulent win of Arroyo in the 2004 polls.

The recent falling out between Gloria Arroyo and a protracted staunch ally, deposed House Speaker Jose de Venecia, over the anomalous NBN-ZTE telecommunications contract could just spell hope for the unraveling of the unholy conspiracy to cheat the Filipinos of their electoral choice for president. De Venecia has recently announced his plan to seek the reopening of the House investigations into the "Hello Garci" electoral controversy. As the Speaker and former Arroyo ally during the periods of the electoral canvassing and during the initial "Hello Garci" tapes investigation, De Venecia could certainly shed light on the mechanics of the conspiracy to rig the 2004 Presidential elections and cover up that trampling of the democratic process.

Hopes to Unravel and Rectify the Presidential Fraud

For seven years, the Philippines has been mired in the evil created by the hypocritical and undemocratic designs of the conspirators who simply preferred Arroyo over the choice of the majority class of society, the masses. It's about time that some truth is unraveled and perhaps, that the 2004 electoral cheating be officially rectified somehow.

"Hello Garci" taped conversation between Gloria Arroyo and COMELEC Dir. Garcillano, at 17:51, June 4, 2004:

Transcript of the conversation between Gary (V. Garcillano) and GMA (Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) on 08 17:51, hotel June ’04
Garcillano: Hello.
GMA: Hello, Garci? Anong gagawin natin dun sa NAMFREL presscon, yung NAMFREL Lanao del Sur.
Garcillano: Ah, inaano ko. Meron na ho akong kopya ng ifinax ni Nobong, yung kay Dalidig. But that is not true because I have already here my staff whom I assigned Lanao Sur. Pagkatapos ho si Rey Sumalipao the supervisor is coming and then we will also try to make him say something after this.
GMA: Uhm-um.
Garcillano: Pagsasalitahin ko sila ho without letting people know that I am the one who will address it ho. Ganun lang po, sige po ma’am.
GMA: Ok, ok

Filipinos Welcome Estrada Pardon, Maintain Reservations About Arroyo

Majority of Filipinos welcomed the long-awaited release of ex-President Joseph Estrada following the clemency extended to the former leader accused of politically motivated trumped-up charges. Estrada was convicted of Plunder and racketing charges by a 'kangaroo' court division of an Anti-Graft body specially created to try the former President following the conspiracy-led uprising unseated him in 2001.

The pardon was given by current President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo nearly after the six-year trial ended in a guilty verdict during a heavily-censored promulgation in September 2007. During the media coverage of the promulgation, the authorities made sure that the public would not see the dramatic moment when Estrada, who remains heavily popular with the Filipinos masses, received the "guilty" verdict.

Never Guilty

Earlier, a nationwide survey showed that an overwhelming majority of Filipinos believe Estrada is innocent of the Plunder charges and that they expected him to be released. The same survey conducted by the Social Weather Station (SWS) also revealed the sentiment of the Filipinos that in case he be declared guilty, Estrada should be pardoned. According to the survey 62% of Filipinos do not believe "Erap" Estrada enriched himself nor committed corruption while he was President; a total of 84% think he should be pardoned if convicted. The SWS, the most active social survey institute in the country, conducted the survey just before the promulgation of the Sandiganbayan decision declaring Estrada guilty of the charges.

Supporters of the former Philippine leader are delighted to see him free again but have reservations about the nature of the pardon and the administration of Arroyo. Estrada and the opposition have long maintained the illegitimacy of Arroyo's administration after the constitutionally questionable decision by the Supreme Court that declared the position of President vacant and Arroyo as the successor. In 2004, Macapagal-Arroyo 'won' in the presidential elections heavily tainted with allegations of electoral fraud. In legal terms, Estrada's acceptance of the executive clemency connotes recognition of the authority of Arroyo. According to Estrada's followers, they want him free but still consider Arroyo's administration as illegitimate.

Filipinos generally believe that Estrada, a former actor who rose from being a mayor, senator and Vice-President before becoming President with the highest plurality vote in Philippine history, is not guilty of any of the charges. Before his arrest and detention, Estrada declined two offers made by the administration of Macapagal-Arroyo for him to live in voluntary exile in exchange for waiving criminal prosecution.

Estrada won as the Philippine's 13th President by a landslide election in 1998 but was unable to finish term after a corrupt governor accused him of pocketing jueteng kickbacks. The accusations mothballed into the so-called EDSA II rebellion backed by the Army's chief-of-staff. Majority of Filipinos believe that Estrada's predecessor, Fidel Ramos and then Vice-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, led the conspiracy that used the kickback issue as a propaganda ploy to bring Estrada into public disfavor.

Objective political analysts suspect that Ramos sought to depose Estrada to avoid prosecution for the scandalous deals his administration entered into. Ramos was named in several multi-million dollar corruption exposes during his term, including the infamous Clark Centennial Exposition project and the PEA-AMARI Manila Bay Reclamation deal, dubbed to be the "grandmother of all scams." Estrada, who assumed office with bankrupt national treasury funds, had threatened to investigate Ramos' complicity in the scams.

The 2001 EDSA II rebellion against the defamed former President acquired the backing of certain business leaders who were disadvantaged by Estrada's pro-poor policies. The Catholic Church led by the powerful Jaime Cardinal Sin also played a part in Estrada's unseating. The politically meddling Cardinal Sin saw a Catholic ally in the successor, Macapagal Arroyo. Despite numerous and persistent allegations of corruption and electoral fraud against the new administration, the Catholic Church continued to support Arroyo, who indeed proved to be a faithful supporter of the Church's positions on various social issues including family planning and the death penalty.
